Hating on Tim Allen is popular these days , but I grew up watching this show and I liked it.
It was on par for the times of addressing hard-hitting WASP folk stuff:
- heavy petting
- mary-juanna
- your son becoming a tree-hugging vegetarian hippy in order to write him out of the show to pursue his unsuccessful movie career
- your other son wearing black lipstick
- midlife crisis
- potential infidelity
- your best friend who is bad at dating
.... Ima watch this again

Tim’s character is a sexiest, close minded, pig headed Buffoon but that’s kind of the point.
Even as a kid I always loved him smart and sassy Jill is.
Also cars. The Nomad, Jill’s Austin Healy, Tim getting his corvair back.

Don’t forget unusually proficient advice from your neighbor whose face you never see.

It has been on one of our channels for awhile. We’ve been putting it on as background noise fairly often while doing other stuff. We watched this show as kids, and it has been interesting to re-watch some of it as an adult. I get why it was so popular at the time, as the humor works on multiple levels. It is one of those rarer shows where there is stuff going on to keep both kids and adults interested.

Fun fact, the set the was being used as the house from the first couple of seasons looks a lot like the inside of our current (built in 1990) house. Its not identical for the most part , but it is certainly pretty familiar feeling .
We caught an episode from the first season where they renovate the master bedroom, and the end result was an almost scarily, if slightly bigger and maybe a tad fancier, version of what the hall bathroom in this house looked like before I updated it a few months ago. Pretty much the same pink tile, same white, light pink and very light colored wood color scheme, exact same light fixtures and hardware, and an almost identical pink, flowery wall paper border.

I think that color was called loquat. Or possibly kumquat.

Googling colors by name, Kumquat looks pretty familiar . When we looked at this house, I was told by both the agent and the boss that the color of certain things was peach... They were lying. I t’s pink.
This happened at other houses we looked at, too. They always called colors fancy names, and I just called them things like blue, or gray, or pink. This may be a guy thing on my part... Occasionally they got me to add a modifier like light gray, or baby- puke green, but that’s a far as I usually went with color names . I have had to learn the names of colors we’re painting the house now, if only so I can tell the paint person at Lowe’s what color of paint to mix up for me .

Go for the premium one with no ads. I don’t mind ads usually but they play the same 3 ads for weeks at a time 3 times per episode. It gets old quick
